Spring on Aonach Mor

While the climbing may not be great here, the ski touring is fantastic with the snowpack softening during the day. Plenty of adventures still to be had!

Still lots of snow higher up

View up the Ben. Note the water blowing up hill from the lower rock band. Also there is some fresh debris out of the bottom of Observatory Gully, most likely cornice collapse

The thaw goes on.

After a slightly colder day yesterday, it was back to mild and damp today. Some pictures form Ben Nevis

Mild and Wet

Over 7 degrees at 850 metres.

Mild temperatures and rain through the day meant the snow was rapidly changing to water and flowing off down to the loch.

However, there is plenty of snow remaining. If the weather would settle down then there would still be some nice spring skiing.

Big Cracks!

Large  cracks continuing to appear round many corrie rims

There is a lot of Cornice waiting to fall off here!

Raining today on the summits

Bit on the damp side today on the hill but still plenty of snow. Lots of creep lines round the plateau rims due to slumping cornices. Also some crevasse type features opening on steep slopes

Distant view of the Ben

Cracks opening up behind the cornice at Easy Gully, Aonach Mor. Its about 8m back from the edge!

Cornices remaining

between Carn Beag Dearg and Carn Dearg Meadhonach.
These cornices are likely to collapse sometime ..............
